I was recovering from a back injury when I began my Pilates journey at Urban Pilates. I took a handful of private lessons with the amazing Jaqueline with the goal of transitioning into group classes. She taught me the foundations of Pilates and offered modifications for the exercises that didn’t work for me. I’m now taking group classes and am constantly impressed by all of the instructors. They take the time to check my form and always offer modifications to meet my needs. The studio is lovely and welcoming. I look forward to attending classes and always walk out feeling taller and more in touch with my body. Pilates is now part of my regular routine. I’ve been taking classes for a few months and already notice a difference in my flexibility and core strength. I’m grateful to have found Urban Pilates community and highly recommend this studio to anyone interested in classical Pilates.

I don’t actually live in Portland, but whenever I am visiting my family here, I make an effort to get into one of Kim’s classes. The atmosphere is great, and Kim is an expert. I always feel great after a class with her. I wish I could go more often.

I have wanted to try for a long time and when the studio moved closer to my home it seemed like a great opportunity.

I didn't know Pilates would be something so connected with other physical activities such as walking and chores, it helps in all areas.

5. What would you say to someone considering starting Pilates?

That it is wonderful and helps with all areas of life, it also seems accessible to all ages.

6. Tell us a little about yourself!

I work from home most of the time and live in Arbor Lodge, I am a parent and spend a lot of time taking my son to activities.

In the last 18 months, Urban Pilates has rebuilt my core, increased my flexibility, and strengthened my limbs. My body feels 10 years younger and my long-time lower back disc injury no longer hurts. I now wake up without the cricks and pains that became routine in my 30s, due to years of playing competitive sports. I have been a regular weekly participant at Urban Pilates for four plus years. I have attended mat classes but as a senior, I prefer the one on one sessions with the qualified staff because they have the expertise and understanding of senior bodies and can modify the equipment and routines for endurance taking into consideration the level of experience and specific health challenges. I am always impressed at the superior attention to cleanliness of the studio and regular cleansing of equipment after each person has used the equipment.
